The Applicator Roller is a key process component in thermoset prepreg production, responsible for transferring a controlled and uniform layer of resin from the coating system to the reinforcement material or transfer film. It plays a vital role in achieving stable resin distribution, accurate resin content, and consistent prepreg quality.
In hot melt prepreg manufacturing, molten epoxy resin is first supplied to the coating section. The Applicator Roller picks up the resin and transfers it evenly to a release paper, carrier film, or directly to the fiber reinforcement. Working in combination with the Metering Roll, it helps regulate resin thickness and ensures that the desired resin content is consistently maintained across the entire product width.
Compared with standard industrial coating rollers, prepreg applicator rollers require extremely high machining precision, excellent concentricity, and optimized surface properties. Even slight variations in roller geometry or surface finish can result in uneven resin coating, thickness variation, or excessive resin consumption.
Our Applicator Rollers are manufactured using advanced CNC machining, precision grinding, and dynamic balancing technology. Each roller undergoes strict quality inspection to ensure low runout, excellent roundness, and stable operation under continuous high-speed production conditions.
To accommodate different resin systems and processing requirements, a variety of surface treatments are available, including hard chrome plating, ceramic coating, tungsten carbide coating, PTFE non-stick coating, and DLC (Diamond-Like Carbon) coating. These surface options improve resin transfer efficiency, reduce resin build-up, simplify cleaning, and extend service life.
Designed for demanding composite manufacturing environments, our Applicator Rollers are widely used in carbon fiber prepreg production, glass fiber prepreg lines, aerospace composite materials, automotive lightweight components, wind energy composites, sporting goods, and other advanced composite applications.
The Applicator Roller evenly transfers resin to the substrate, ensuring a stable and uniform coating layer.
